The Hidden Trails of the Cape Winelands
Most visitors to the Cape Winelands come for the wine. Mountain bikers come for something altogether different: some of the most technically rewarding singletrack on the continent, hidden in plain sight among the vines.
Jonkershoek Valley
The valley begins to reveal itself as the tar road narrows past the conservation entrance. Oak trees planted by French Huguenot settlers shade the first kilometres before fynbos takes over. That uniquely South African shrubland, home to over 9,000 plant species and the most botanically diverse biome on Earth.
The Expert Lines
For those prepared to earn their descents, the Expert Loop climbs relentlessly into the mountain, eventually emerging above the treeline onto exposed sandstone ridges where the wind howls and views extend to the Hottentots Holland mountains. The descent is steep, technical, and absolutely glorious.
