Flow State: Inside the Mind of Luca Cometti

It is early morning in Stellenbosch and Luca Cometti is already on the trails. He has been riding for two hours before most people have finished breakfast. Not out of obligation, but because this is where he thinks most clearly.

From Johannesburg to the World Stage

Growing up in Johannesburg, Cometti had no blueprint for becoming a professional mountain biker. There were no heroes who looked like him, no pathway laid out before him. There was only the Magaliesberg, his father’s old hardtail, and an obsessive desire to go faster.

The bike is my meditation. When I’m on the trail, nothing else exists.

What separates Cometti from his peers is not merely physical ability but mental composure under pressure. He works with a sports psychologist year-round, treating psychological preparation with the same seriousness as physical training.
